Xerox Printer Test Page
Phaser machines print a demo page and a configuration sheet from the same button, told apart only by how long you hold it. Larger devices put both behind the Information or Print Reports menu. Both routes are below.
Set scaling to 100%. Choose Actual Size in the print dialog, never Fit to page — scaling distorts every measurement on this sheet. The Download PDF button hands you that same sheet as a ready-made file, so there is no scaling decision to get wrong.
How to print the Xerox Printer Test Page
- Load plain white paper and set quality to Best or High.
- Set scaling to Actual Size or 100%, then print this sheet.
- Print the demo or configuration page from the table above and keep both.
- Read status — toner, page count, network settings — from the Xerox report only.
- Judge density, registration and repeating marks on this sheet.
- Fix one variable, reprint the same file, and compare it against the first sheet rather than from memory.
Built-in test page by model series
| Phaser 3140, 3155, 3160, 3435 | Hold Cancel about two seconds for a demo page; six to seven for the configuration sheet |
| Phaser 8560 and similar | Information → OK → Information Pages → Configuration Page → OK |
| Phaser 6510 and later touch models | Menu → Print Reports → Configuration → OK |
| Sample colour pages | Information → Sample Pages → CMYK or RGB Sampler → OK |
| Any Xerox through the Windows driver | Printer properties → General → Print Test Page |
Reading the result
| Demo page and this sheet both print correctly | The engine, the queue and the supplies are working. Remaining faults are in the document or the driver settings. |
| Solid blocks show streaks or light bands | Toner is low, the drum is contaminated, or the transfer is uneven. Swap the cartridge first — it is the cheapest variable and the most common cause. |
| Registration marks do not line up across colours | Colour registration is out. Run the registration correction from the device maintenance menu, then reprint this sheet to verify the fix rather than trusting the menu. |
| A repeating defect appears at a fixed pitch | Measure it against the drum and fuser circumferences. Xerox reports name the responsible unit when a service fault is already logged, but the pattern on this sheet is the evidence that the fault exists at all. |
| The button hold prints nothing | The machine is not in Ready, a cover is open, or the hold was released too early. Keep the key pressed until the LED changes pace rather than counting seconds. |
Also check
- Black and white page — Density and text sharpness on their own, which is most of what a mono Phaser can get wrong.
- Alignment page — Registration marks across colour separate a transfer fault from a density fault, and only this sheet measures the offset.
- Gradient and banding page — The most sensitive reading for toner ramp smoothness, where a failing cartridge first becomes visible.
Related test pages
- B&W printer test page — Removing colour from the equation isolates density, toner coverage and fine detail problems.
- Alignment printer test page — If lines that should be straight come out crooked, or text looks doubled, the printhead is out of alignment. This sheet measures it.
- Laser printer test page — Laser faults live in density, fusing and geometry, and none of them involve nozzles. This sheet measures how evenly toner is laid down and whether it stays on the paper.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a Xerox demo page and a configuration page?
A demo page is a sample of what the machine can print; a configuration page lists settings, options, page counts and consumable status. On several Phaser models the same button produces one or the other depending on how long it is held.
How do I print a configuration page on a Xerox Phaser without a computer?
On the 3140, 3155 and 3160 family, press and hold Cancel while the machine is ready: about two seconds for a demo page and six or seven for the configuration sheet. On machines with a display, use Information or Print Reports instead of timing a button.
Where is the Xerox sample colour page?
Information, then Sample Pages, then CMYK or RGB Sampler. Those pages demonstrate colour capability but are not drawn to expose banding or registration drift, so treat them as a capability check rather than a diagnostic.
Where is Print Test Page for a Xerox in Windows 11?
Devices and Printers, right-click the Xerox queue, choose Printer properties — not the plain Properties entry — then Print Test Page on the General tab. On macOS the equivalent lives under Options & Supplies in the print dialog.
Why does the Xerox report show full toner while prints look pale?
The report reads the chip, not the image. A cartridge can report remaining life and still deliver poorly if it has been sitting, has been refilled, or is below the temperature the engine expects. This sheet is the check that catches the difference.
